Back in Black
Onyx and Obsidian
Onyx and obsidian are often seen as simply black, but they hold a range of color, revealed more fully when tumbled or polished. Discovering this led me to ice dye them—using black fabric as a base, removing pigment, and then rebuilding color through layers of melting ice and dye. What began as a study of black has become an ongoing exploration.
